[Introduction by The Old Hipster of The Honolulu Jazz Scene Network]

Cool Breeze is a collaboration of exceptional jazz artists from all over the planet who currently live and “do their thing” in Honolulu, Hawai’i,  where the breeze is indeed as cool as the cats & kitties here.  Let me hip you to the gators featured on their latest CD.

The genius of this outfit is a cat named Glen Murray, a fine jazz guitarist from Northwest England.  I don’t use the term “genius” lightly.  You may well be impressed with his jazz guitar artistry (and I assure you his chops are ‘no-nonsense’ top-notch), but most of Cool Breeze’s material are Glen’s original compositions, and all the covers of other artists are Glen’s unique arrangements.  When you hear it (and dig the new-sound/familiar theme), you’ll be going, “Whoa!  Quincy Jones, Oliver Nelson, Billy Strahorn step aside, this “new kid on the block” has gone one up on you!”

Next is Sulubika.  This is the most incredible jazz flutist I have ever heard.  (Are you listening Herbie, Hubert, Ronald?).  “Big Names” have heard him (he’s been around) and beg him to join them in the “jazz bizness”, but he ain’t buyin’ it.  He prefers to just kick around Honolulu and be true to the art-form we call jazz.  When you hear what the cat lays down, maybe you can see why.

Pierre Grill, a Frenchman, blows piano with The Breeze.  An accomplished jazz pianist (to be sure, and multi-instrumentalist in fact), Pierre also operates the recording studio that has put much of Cool Breeze’s CDs ‘in the can’ and out on CD.

Sam Ahia, a “Maui-boy” who has been on the Hawai’i jazz scene for a long time.  Mentor to Glen on the jazz guitar and a legend hereabouts, adds his unique stylings to Cool Breeze.

Ernie Provencher is a globe-trotting world-class bassist who adds his ‘bottom-line’ imprimateur to Cool Breeze.

Noel Okimoto   blows drums for Cool Breeze.  A “local boy from Honolulu”, Noel (who also blows vibes) has a number of CDs of his own on the market.  You’d be hard-pressed to find another jazz drummer better than Noel.

Ginai adds class and style to Cool Breeze with her vocals.  This gal has done her homework; Big Mamma Thorton, Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday, Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughn, you name it.  What can we say about Ginai?  A jazz vocalist much in demand (I’m talkin’ GLOBALLY!) who has the jazz idiom down and a voice that will blow your socks off.

So now that you’ve met the leader & the gators, the cats & kitties who make Cool Breeze what it is, let’s get down to where “the rubber meets the road” and turn you on to their CDs.

We’re still dickering with distributors but if you want a taste of what these cats deliver in advance of being able to buy in a record shop or online just click HERE.
